SOLD OUT! Unearthing the Past, Powering the Future – An Exclusive Resource Centre of Excellence Dinosaur Week Event

This event has SOLD OUT!

Resource Centre of Excellence, Mackay

This special Dinosaur Week event explores the fascinating interconnection between the resource sector, new technologies, palaeosciences and regional tourism in Queensland.

Dr Scott Hocknull, Principal Research Fellow in Applied Palaeontology & Palaeotourism at CQUniversity, will take audiences through their own unique fossil record, discovered across the region, spanning the beginnings of the dinosaurs through to the end of the Megafauna.

These same timeframes created Queensland’s rich mineral and energy resources, from ancient coal forests to volcanic landscapes and new discoveries of tropical giant lizards, crocodiles and marsupials. The talk will highlight how new technologies, including robotics, high-resolution scanning, digital imaging and geochemical analysis, are transforming how scientists study rocks, fossils and ancient environments. By combining science, industry and tourism, these discoveries are creating new opportunities for innovation, education and exploration across regional Queensland.
